Oh, long, long
The snow has possessed the mountains.
The deer have come down and the big-horn,
They have followed the Sun to the south
To feed on the mesquite pods and the bunch grass.
Loud are the thunder drums
In the tents of the mountains.
Oh, long, long
Have we eaten chia seeds
And dried deer's flesh of the summer killing.
We are wearied of our huts
And the smoky smell of our garments.
We are sick with desire of the sun
And the grass on the mountain.

ああ、ずっとずっと
雪が 山を ひとりじめにしている。
シカが山を下り、オオツノヒツジも下った
みんな 太陽を追って 南に下った
メスキートのさや豆や 牧草を食べようと。
鳴りひびくは サンダードラムス
山の天幕いっぱいに。
ああ、ずっとずっと
チアの種と 夏狩りのシカの干し肉ばかり
食べてきた。
家にいるのも 煙臭くなった服にも
うんざりだ。
太陽や 山の草原 恋しさで
ぼくらは病気になってしまったよ。

種子を食用と飲用に使う。
メスキート：
米国西部でよく見られるマメ科の低木で深い茂みをつくる。
とげがあり、豆状の果実をつける。
