Without raincoats we went hiking in the rain,
stepped in mud puddles and did not bother to
change our cloths.
We touched everything in the stores, and
bought only for ourselves,
spent extravagant money on impractical cloths.
We wore old, dirty blue jean,
didn't comb our hair, and
drove too fast.
We went exploring without
a map and waved at strangers;
missed our curfew.
We sang love songs and held hands,
played with fire and ran through the surf
with our shoes on.
We Dreamed Big.
We laughed out loud in a crowded cafe,
talked to strangers, and
ate dessert for dinner...just in case we didn't live to see
the dawn.
We parked in an illegal zone,
picked wild flowers,
and petted other people's dogs.
We smiled all day and sang
the bear song...."Kuma-san", "Oso", "Bear"
in three languages.
We hugged lots of trees,
ate marshmallows without toasting them, and
didn't study all day.
We wore hats in the building,
used improper grammar, and
interrupting each other.
We sat in the dirt,
walked in the clouds, and
played in a windstorm.
We ate in the car without
napkins, burped loudly and
licked food off our hands.
We asked lots of questions, and
tried to answer every one like
the kids we used to be.
We Did Everything Adults Tell Us Not To Do.
IT WAS A WOW DAY!

May 1st, 1993 Saturday
Weather forecast: mostly cloudy, and slight chance of shower in the afternoon Both Priscilla and me got on the old blue Ford truck, "Susie" to go on a day trip. When we left the small town, Forest Grove, we did not know where we would end up. We saw Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn in each other's face. We got lost on the mountain path, and along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. This poem is the child of that fun union. (more photos of that day)
*You can listen to the reading of this poem by the author and her friend Priscilla on "in VOICE"(6).
