secret is gradual. as if she has never seen it
before. a tint of her eyelids slowly spread onto
the darkened surface. the creased ridge of a
mussel. rain or aurora, ruffled by her breath.
a moment behind. the powdery scales of a
butterfly left on her knee. the silver thistles
grow near a crag, hiding her lungs with their
calyces.

Akari Miki
She is an installation and performance artist, who uses shape, word and sound as means to seize a moment in space. She was born and raised in Tokyo and spent half of her lifetime in the United States. She received her MFA degree in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently enjoys sharing her creative responses with children, collecting seedpods and encountering unknown pathways in Japan.
