My home is in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, but I was born and grew up in South Australia. I studied Chinese and English at university, and after graduating from the University of Adelaide with an Honours Degree in English Literature, I went to China to study and work. I was an English teacher in Australia and Japan, before becoming a translator in a large company. Eventually I decided that company life was not for me, so I quit to work freelance and have since concentrated on general translation and women's issues, including translating the book Women and Religion in Japan.
